Simplifying How You Work
When the way you work is making things harder than they need to be.
Business process improvement for owners and leaders: find what's slowing your business down, remove wasted effort and make better use of the technology you already have.
As organisations grow, the processes that once served them well don't always keep pace.
Teams develop workarounds. Information gets copied between systems. Approvals take longer than they should. People become dependent on a handful of colleagues who know how everything works.
These frustrations can become so familiar that nobody questions them.
I help you uncover what's causing the difficulties and find a better way forward.
Where the problems often show up
- Re-entering the same information in several places.
- Waiting for approvals, handovers or responses.
- Using spreadsheets to fill gaps between systems.
- Relying heavily on individual knowledge.
- Different teams following inconsistent processes.
- Spending too much time on routine administration.
Often, several symptoms lead back to the same underlying issue.
How I can help
I'll spend time with the people involved, examine the existing processes and trace how information and responsibilities move through the business.
That helps reveal unnecessary steps, delays, gaps in ownership and opportunities to simplify things.
From there, we can design a more effective approach. The answer might be clearer responsibilities, fewer handovers, better use of an existing system or targeted automation. It doesn't automatically mean buying something new.
I can also help translate the agreed approach into requirements, plans and delivery, rather than leaving you with recommendations alone.
Experience in practice
Simplifying worker booking
I led the introduction of a web-based booking system that replaced a labour-intensive manual process.
Previously, managing worker bookings required the administrative capacity of four people. With the new approach, the same activity could be managed by one role, freeing up time and resources for other activities.
Workers could accept or decline assignments directly, while operational teams benefited from simpler allocation and better visibility of bookings.
Related changes introduced mobile information capture and easier access to reporting for clients, reducing the need for manual requests and follow-up.
The result was a more efficient way of working, with less administration and greater control for the people involved.
What you can expect
A focused engagement could provide:
- A clear picture of how the current process operates.
- The underlying causes of delays, duplication or unnecessary effort.
- Options for simplifying the way work gets done.
- Prioritised recommendations and a plan for taking them forward.
Where needed, I can remain involved to help introduce the changes and support the people affected.
